9/11 Heroes Run returns to Cooper River Park

On Sunday, September 7,  the 9/11 Heroes Run will return to Cooper River Park to honor and remember the sacrifices of the heroes of Sept. 11, 2001, and the wars since. Sunday’s event kicks off at 9:11 a.m. when runners and walkers of all levels will make their trek around the Cooper River.

The 9/11 heroes run began in 2008 to honor of First Lieutenant Travis Manion, who was killed in Iraq on April 29, 2007. The event encourages the community to come together to honor local veterans, their families, and first responders. Local volunteers organize the events on behalf of the Travis Manion Foundation in more than 50 cities around the world.

“This event sends a powerful message that no matter how many years pass, we will never stop honoring those lost on September 11th and during the wars that followed,” Commissioner Fleisher said. “Thousands of brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, and their legacy deserves to live on forever.”
